Cost Trail for Jira

Terms of service

Last updated 27 August 2026

These terms cover the Cost Trail for Jira app. Your purchase, billing and refunds run through the Atlassian Marketplace and are governed by Atlassian's own terms; these cover the app itself.

What the app does

It totals the cost of work logged in Jira, from Jira's own worklogs, using rates you enter. It needs no timesheet app to work.

What we promise, and what we do not

We promise the total says what it covers. Every figure carries a line giving the hours counted, the work logged outside the period, anybody whose hours are excluded because no rate is set for them, and any worklog that could not be read. That line is there when everything added up, because a warning that only appears on failure is one nobody reads.

We promise it does not quietly value work at zero. Somebody with no rate has their hours reported separately and named. A rate that cannot be read, including a negative one or one more precise than a cent, is refused and reported rather than rounded into something nobody typed.

We promise the arithmetic is exact. Costs are summed as whole cents, so the order of the rows cannot change the answer. Where the rounded lines in an exported file do not add to the exact total, the file says so and explains why.

What we cannot do is see what Jira hides from you. Your query runs as you. Jira can withhold entire issues, and it can withhold individual worklogs on an issue you can otherwise read. So a colleague with different access can get a different number from the same report, and every report says so rather than presenting one account's view as the whole truth.

The app is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability is limited to what you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim.

A cost report is not an accounting system and not an invoice. It totals what people logged in Jira at the rates you gave it. If a figure is going to a client, check it against whatever system of record you actually bill from. Hours in Jira are only as accurate as the person who typed them.

When something goes wrong

Every cost says what it covers, without anybody having to check. If you ever find a figure that silently included or excluded work without saying so, tell us and we will treat it as the highest priority thing in the queue, because it is the exact failure this product exists to avoid.

Support

Support is by email, in English, on a best-effort basis during UK and US business days. There is no contracted response time. If that matters to you, say so before buying rather than after.

Billing, renewal and cancellation

Atlassian bills you, not us. Pricing, renewal, cancellation and refunds follow the Atlassian Marketplace terms shown at the point of purchase. We do not hold your card details and never see them.

Your data

Covered in the privacy policy. In short: the app runs inside your own Atlassian instance and makes no outbound calls. It stores the administrator's rate-card configuration, including Jira group names that may be identifying; it does not persist worklogs, account ids, display names, email addresses, or group memberships.

Ending it

Uninstall the app whenever you want. The rate card goes with it. Worklogs are Jira's and are untouched, because this app never wrote to them. Atlassian keeps hosted app storage for a short recovery period after an uninstall, which is their retention rather than ours.

Changes to these terms

If these change, the date at the top changes with them. A change that materially reduces what the app does will be said plainly on the Marketplace listing, not only here.
